Winter in New York City

Freezing temperatures can't stop the city that never sleeps. There's something about the hustle and bustle of New York City in the cold winter months that brings warmth to the soul. Well, that and a good fur (faux, of course). Here are a few ways to embrace those chilly days in the Big Apple:

- Take the Subway: it may be intimidating at first, but you'll get the hang of it and be traveling like a local in no time. The subway is a cheaper alternative to navigating the city when you're facing traffic and the 20 degree weather above. Since you never know when you'll have the urge to catch the subway, rather than wait for an Uber/taxi, buy a metro card to last the duration of your trip.

- Walk The High Line + head into Chelsea Market: the High Line is one of my favorite things to do in New York. The converted pedestrian walkway has great views of the city and from certain locations you can even spot Lady Liberty! Getting a bit chilly? Pop into Chelsea Market on the South end for a variety of food, beverage, and boutique vendors.

- Explore a museum: I thoroughly enjoy the Guggenheim Museum and all of its architectural glory. The building itself is like a piece of art and the galleries are easy to navigate. Although very emotional, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum captures a significant chapter in our country's history. There are plenty of museums in NYC to escape the chill for a few hours, it's just a matter of where your interests lie.

- tea at the Palm Court in The Plaza Hotel: hot tea, finger sandwiches, and mini desserts galore? Say no more. It's the perfect way to spend a lazy afternoon within a stunning setting.

- Sip on a cocktail: there's nothing like a stiff drink to warm you up. Some of my favorite bars in the city are Dear Irving, The Tipsy Parson, The Campbell, and Apotheke. All are cozy spots that don't make you feel guilty for staying inside for a while.

- Stroll Along the Brooklyn Bridge: it may be freezing outside, but it's totally worth the walk. For the best views, start on the Brooklyn side and head towards Manhattan. The city views are spectacular and you'll be in awe of the architecture of the bridge which was completed in 1883!

- Eat well: there are tons of restaurants in New York that are totally worth every penny. Try Le Coucou or Balthazar for delicious French fare. There's pretty much a great restaurant around every corner in the big city, so it's hard to go wrong. Pro tip: if you're heading to NY around the holidays, make reservations far in advance... as in a month or more.

- Wander though Central Park: every time I visit, I always discover an area of the park I haven't explored. This oasis is beautiful year-round and there are plenty of things to do during the winter (like ice skate!).

New York City is truly a magical place no matter the season. Put on a warm coat, take in the city life, grab a warm meal and a drink, and soon enough you'll forget all about those freezing temps.
